Phyllis Eaton
February 20, 1928 ~ January 2, 2018 (age 89) 89 Years OldPhyllis A. Eaton, 89, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Phyllis Arlene Eaton was born February 20, 1928, in Grand Mound to Albert and Lottie (Oldsen) Ahlers. She graduated from Grand Mound High School in 1945. Phyllis married Richard Eaton on November 15, 1947 in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1998. She had been employed at Grand Mound Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and library assistant. Phyllis had her first retirement party after 23 years of service. She owned Phyl’s Place in Grand Mound. She had her second retirement party after 4 years and 3 months. She worked for Turtles Tap and Cherokees Bar. She had her third retirement party in 2009.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Every year she made grape jelly for family and friends, and after Thanksgiving started baking Christmas cookies to share.
Surviving are her children, Christie (Ron) Donovan-Coons, and Rick (Jan) Eaton; grandchildren, Chad, Brian, Willie, Bryan (Karla), and Franny; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Allison, Wyatt, Patrick, and Annabeth; sister, Shirley (George) Burmeister, sisters-in-law Ella and Lois Ahlers; and honorary grandchildren, Helen Wuestenberg and Zachary Claussen.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, Bill Donovan, and brothers, Lowell and Donald.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Schultz Funeral Home in Grand Mound. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018, in the funeral home, with Pastor Denise Anderberg officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound, at a later date.
This is Phyl’s 4th and final retirement party.
