Elaine Catherine Hofer
August 26, 1926 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years OldMrs. Elaine C. Hofer, 91, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, January 9, 2018, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
Mrs. Hofer, the former Elaine Catherine Schroeder was born August 26, 1926, at Goose Lake to the late Arthur and Agnes (Ketelsen) Schroeder. She was a 1943 graduate of Elvira High School. Elaine married Paul Hofer November 17, 1943, at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed and raised their family of five children at rural DeWitt. Paul preceded Elaine in death on March 24, 1986.
She was a devoted lifelong member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and the Naomi Circle serving as president of Elvira Lutheran Church Women. Elaine began playing organ at the church at age 13 and was choir director and Sunday school accompanist. She and Paul were active in Clinton County and Iowa Pork Producers. Elaine also served on the Clinton County Porkette Board and was awarded the State Bell Ringer Award for pork promotion. She and Paul traveled throughout the United States promoting Iowa pork. Family was her passion and she was devoted to her family especially in prayer.
Surviving are children, Kay (David) Hall, Ken, deceased (Phyllis) Hofer and Art (Stephanie) Hofer all of DeWitt, Paula (Tom) Underwood of West Des Moines, Rick Hofer of Ankeny; grandchildren, Jamey (Deb) Hall, Randy (Tammy) Hall, Stacy (Emil) Olbrich, Kristi Hofer, Mike (Angie) Hofer, Andrea (Amar) Young, Laura (Brian) Hinspeter, Brad Hofer, Kelsey (Greg) Hudson and Kyle (Kelli) Underwood; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Elaine was also preceded in death by brothers, LaVern Schroeder and Donald Schroeder.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
