Russell Edwin Galloway

Russell E. "Burr" Galloway, 69, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Tuesday, at Genesis Medical Center-East, Davenport.  

Russell Edwin Galloway was born September 24, 1947, at home in Grand Mound to Harold and Earline (Riggs) Galloway.  He attended Central Community High School in DeWitt.  On January 11, 1966, Russ married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Jane Ball in Maquoketa.  Russ drove and worked on trucks all of his working life.  As a talented mechanic, he could get anything to run, whether it be a truck, car, golf cart or lawn mowers.  Russ was well known through the businesses he co-owned with his son and grandson, R & M Repair and G & H Golf Carts in Grand Mound.  Marilyn, his wife of fifty years passed away in September and part of Russ' huge heart went with her.  It gives the family much peace and comfort knowing that they are together again.  

As an avid golfer, Burr was a member of Wapsi Oaks Country Club and enjoyed numerous outings over the years. He could often be found at lunch time playing sheepshead with his buddies. Russ was very proud of his grandchildren and loved the time he spent with them.  He enjoyed time with friends at the home he and Marilyn established in Mission Texas, away from the Iowa winter.  A favorite saying of Russ' was, "that's no hill for a climber" and he encouraged hard work and fun with family and friends.

Surviving children and their spouses, Dennis and Gwen Galloway of Grand Mound and Donna and Greg Layton of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Alex Galloway, Makena Layton and Kyra Layton; siblings, Darlene Simmons, Earl “Dude” (Jo) Galloway, Jerry (Barb) Wirth, Don (Janet) Galloway, Larry (Pat) Galloway, Roger (Linda) Galloway, Barb (Ken) Schroeder, Al (Pam) Galloway, Jim (Bev) Galloway, Marcia (Ron) Barten and Linda Miller; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merwyn Hasenmiller, Carol Galloway, Marjorie (Stanley) Rock, Virginia (Robert) Mangelsen and Sarah Ball; numerous nieces and nephews  who loved him very much as well as a huge extended family.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Russ was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Rhea Hasenmiller, Dwain Galloway and Geff (Hilma) Galloway; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Dale and Eleanor Ball and a brother-in-law, Ken Simmons.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017.  A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, in the funeral home with Pastor Denise Anderberg officiating.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. 

Pallbearers will be Scott Galloway, Erik Mangelsen, Adam Mangelsen, William Rock, Will Lackermann, James Henderkott and Parker Mangelsen.
