Kenneth Allen Meier

Kenneth A. Meier, 67, of DeWitt, Iowa, died late Thursday, November 24, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

Kenneth Allen Meier was born November 30, 1948, to Vernon and Laura “Babe” (Beste) Meier in Davenport. He was a 1967 graduate of Calamus High School and attended Clinton County Community College and the University of Iowa. He married Sue Casad on September 11, 1971, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound.  Ken was employed at Steffens Grocery, Barnes Foodland, and went on to a career in selling insurance and investments for Sage Point Financial.

Ken had a passion for serving his Lord and Savior, and he was involved in founding several ministries in DeWitt, including Emmaus Road Church, where he was an elder for 34 years, the middle school FCA, and Sunshine Church Services at Westwing Place. He was a referee for both basketball and volleyball and served as president of the board at American Mutual Insurance in Grand Mound. One of his favorite past times was to play golf with friends where he achieved 2 hole-in-ones.

Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years; children, Megan of Bettendorf, and Joe of Easthampton, MA; a brother, Jerry (Janelle) Meier; a brothers-in-law, Al (Marilyn) Casad, Mike Kabala; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Diane Kabala.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Emmaus Road Church in DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in the church, with Pastor Paul Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
