Mrs. Mary J. McGarry, 97, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, August 5, 2017, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. McGarry, the former Mary Josephine Mulholland was born June 16, 1920 in DeWitt to the late Clem and Elsie (Shea) Mulholland.  On June 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to Charles McGarry.  The couple farmed at rural DeWitt where they raised their family.  In retirement, they resided in Florida for 10 years.  Charlie preceded Mary in death September 14, 1998.

Mary was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt and the Altar and Rosary Society.  Her family meant the world to her.  Mary was an excellent cook and will be lovingly remembered for many wonderful family meals.   She and Charlie especially loved entertaining family and friends during their time in Florida.

Surviving are children and their spouses, Bill and Barb McGarry of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Bonnie and George Howes of DeWitt, Bob and Jane McGarry of Davenport and Tom and Donna McGarry of Crystal Lake, Illinois; grandchildren, Mike (Georgia) McGarry, Mark (Kelly) McGarry, Matt (Julie) McGarry, Maria (Ryan) Mills, Marty (Tracy) McGarry, Mary (Steve) Kilburg, Kate (Ken) Waechter, Julie (Luke Biel) Howes, Brian (Jen) McGarry, Erin (Simon Brewer) McGarry, Beth (Ted) McKiernan and Allison (Jarod) Cenci; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Raftery of Davenport and Margaret (Bill) Trompeter of DeWitt.

Preceding Mary in death in addition to her husband and parents was a sister, Patsy Wulf.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
