Lisa C. Delfs, 82, DeWitt, died Sunday morning, January 3, 2010 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Lisa was born July 9, 1927 in Bordesholm Germany to the late Hans and Thea (Harm) Freese. She was raised and educated in Germany. Lisa married Heinz Delfs August 6, 1949 in Bordesholm. They inmigrated to Grand Mound, Iowa, in 1950, through their sponsors, John and Louise Diercks. After moving to DeWitt, Lisa worked for Warneke''s Cafe and Rexall Drugs, where she learned much of her English. She and Heinz owned and operated Heinz Auto Service until his death in 1994.

She enjoyed children and her daily routine of riding her bike to Barnes Foodland and the Post Office. Lisa loved her many trips, especially those back to Germany to visit her family and friends. She also cherished her family, her card club group, gardening and flowers. Lisa was especially known for keeping you on your toes with her feisty outlook.

Those left to honor her memory in the United States are her sister and brother-in-law, Grete and Karl Maass, DeWitt; nieces and a nephew, Anke Maass, Birgit Maass and Claus (Jennifer) Maass; great-nieces and great-nephews, Brooke, Andrew, Quinn, Britta, Alex, William and Weston; those left to honor her memory in Germany include brothers and sisters-in-law, Heini and Ingrid Freese, Fide and Evi Freese and Dieter and Doris Freese as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous other special friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 in Schultz Funeral Home Chapel, DeWitt. The Rev. Timothy J. Carr will officiate. Interment will be in the Bordesholm Cemetery in Bordesholm, Germany. Memorials may be made to Westwing Place.
