Jan, family and friends; I find myself in a state of shock, much like many others. Gone are the big smile, the big laugh, and the big man, with the even bigger heart. The last time I talked to Rick I was in the hospital and he stopped by to visit. The ironic part of that; he was much sicker than I was. This is what Rick was about, a big heart. Taking time to visit when he was clearly not feeling well.

Rick accomplished the ultimate goal a human can achieve. He improved as a human being as he traveled through the journey of life. Isn't that what we all hope to accomplish? I am glad to have broken bread with Rick on more than one occasion. He surely seemed to enjoy sharing time at the table with friends and family. This is how I will always remember Rick, sharing, eating, laughing with many friends and family members. Lot of good memories for the entire Hafner family to hold on to. My sincere condolences go out to all, that knew Rick.

Growing up, Rick, Jan and the boys were part of our extended family. The boys were just another set of siblings for me. When I found out last night of Rick's passing, so many memories flooded in. The time Rick was teaching me to play Racquet Ball at the DeWitt Rec Center and was laughing at me so hard in that laugh of his. It was a good laugh... I was 10 or 12 at the time and was TERRIBLE at it. I remember from even when we were much younger and him hooking up the cart to his John Deere mower and taking my brother Lonnie, Eric, Thad and I on rides all over the neighborhood and beyond. You were a great man with a great family. You will be missed!
