Mardella June Anderson, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.

Mardella was born February 27, 1934, to Raymond and Nora (Holtz) Westphal in Delmar. She was a 1951 graduate of Delmar High School. Mardella was united in marriage to Thomas J. Anderson on August 18, 1957, at Maquoketa First Lutheran Church. The couple settled in DeWitt, where they raised their three children. She worked for DeWitt Community Hospital for 35 years. Thomas preceded her in death on October 21, 2008.

Mardella was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she particularly enjoyed services at Grace Camp. Her life revolved around her 6 grandchildren, babysitting, attending all their activities, and spoiling them.  She loved cooking, baking, and family vacations to Leech Lake. She enjoyed going out for coffee with her friends, dinner and shopping with her sisters.

Surviving are her children Pam Anderson of Crowley, Texas, Mike (Lori) Anderson of Davenport, and John (Jennifer) Anderson of DeWitt; grandchildren Josh Leverett, Whitney, Tayler, Jessica, and Allie Anderson and Valerie (Nick) Dexter; great-grandchildren, Nova and Thomas; siblings, Leo (Lois) Westphal, Charles (Shirley) Westphal, twin sister, Marcella Burmahl, and Janet Schmidt; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Bruce Schmidt, a niece, Deb Hall, and brothers-in-law, Willis Burmahl and Owen Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24th at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016, in the church. Rev. Ron Rafferty will officiate and burial will follow at Elmwood, DeWitt.
