Jason Allen Schmitt, 41, of DeWitt, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.

Jason was born October 2, 1975, in Dubuque, to David Schmitt and Debbie Daugherty. After graduation from Central DeWitt in 1995, he received an Associate’s degree in automotive technology from Scott Community College. Jason married Jennifer Lingle on October 4, 1997, in Delmar, Iowa. To this union were born Kyle, Eve, and Josh. He was employed by Corson’s Full Service Center for many years until purchasing the business in 2013, renaming it Schmitt’s Auto Repair & Gas Station.

He regularly attended Emmaus Road Church, where he enjoyed serving as an usher. He had a passion for classic cars and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed playing euchre and beanbags. He loved watching NASCAR, restoring cars with his son, Kyle, fishing, and hunting with his kids. He spent as much time as he could camping with his family and friends.  Jason was well known for his contagious smile and generous spirit. We will miss his front yard bonfires, where everyone was always welcome. In keeping with Jason’s generosity, he gave the gift of life through the Iowa Donor Network.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Jennifer; his children Kyle, Eve, and Josh; parents, Debbie Daugherty of Dubuque, and David and Roxie Schmitt of DeWitt; siblings Adam (Shawnee) Schmitt of DeWitt, Stacy (Rod) Egemo of Anchorage, Alaska, Mike Banowetz of Clinton, Paula Banowetz of Des Moines, and Susie (Cory) Sawvell of DeWitt; grandparents, Mabel Schmitt of Galena, Illinois and Harlan and Janet Pfohl of Dubuque; mother-in-law Cindy (Warren) Ness of Iowa City, and father-in-law, Larry (Joan) Lingle of Williamsburg; grandmothers-in-law Marilyn Notz of DeWitt and Gloria “Sal” Lingle of Maquoketa;  brother-in-law Tim (Katie) Lingle of Rockledge, Florida; 15 nieces and nephews; and neighborhood “corner” families.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Vincent Schmitt, and George Healey, and his grandfathers-in-law Robert Notz, and Walter Lingle.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Emmaus Road Church, DeWitt. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church.
