Mr. Everett R. Ruggeberg, 88, of Welton, Iowa, died Easter Sunday evening, March 27, 2016, at Grand Haven Assisted Living, Eldridge.

Everett Roy Ruggeberg was born May 11, 1927, on the family farm at rural Welton, to Roy and Amelia (Schwartz) Ruggeberg. He graduated from Welton High School in 1944, and began farming at a young age. On September 15, 1954, he married Janet Schmidt at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The couple purchased the family farm where they raised their family. His wife, Janet preceded him death on October 13, 1999.

He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Everett loved to play cards and watch sporting events of all types. He was a member of a card club and also enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and his class reunions.

Surviving are children, Sally (Ron Schiltz) Ruggeberg of LeClaire, Bill (Tammy) Ruggeberg of Prophetstown, Illinois, Jim (Beth) Ruggeberg of DeWitt and Susan (José) Ruggeberg of El Cajon, California; grandchildren, Brian (Kristi) Beck, Joe (Lisa) Ruggeberg, Tom (Kelly) Ruggeberg and Maureen Ruggeberg; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Ruggeberg of DeWitt and Margaret Pestka of Clinton.

Preceding Everett in death in addition to his wife were his parents; his step-mother, Jessie Maltas; brothers, Harold, Leo, Darrell and Vernon; sisters, Opal and Bernetta Ruggeberg, Thelma Braet and Vinetta Farber and a step-sister, Dorothy Carson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31st. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1st at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery, Welton. Memorials are suggested Heartland Hospice.

Pallbearers will be John Ruggeberg, Mark Ruggeberg, Dirk Braet, Tom Pestka, Alan Ruggeberg and Randy Ruggeberg.
