Lori Lynn (Schmidt) Hoffmann

Lori Lynn Schmidt Hoffmann, 53 of Preston, Iowa, passed away at her home on November 19, 2015, surrounded by her family and friends from complications of breast cancer. 

Lori was born July 31, 1962, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Ardo and Jan (Medinger) Schmidt of Preston.  She was a graduate of Preston High School and then attended the Professional Academy of Science and Beauty in Clinton, Iowa.  Lori married the love of her life, Jeffrey Hoffmann, on September 26, 2009 in Maquoketa.

Lori owned and operated Hair Connections, a local hair salon In Maquoketa, for 30 years.  In the winter of 2014, Lori was no longer able to continue working due to her health.  The business was sold shortly thereafter.  In recent years Lori had also cleaned at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston where she was also actively involved in the parish.

Lori and her husband Jeff have been a part of the community throughout their lives.  Lori and Jeff participated as ushers at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston.  Lori was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphel 1156 of Jackson County.  Lori’s family always came first.  She was a loving wife, daughter, aunt, step-mother, and grandmother.  Lori always put others needs before her own.  She lived her life on her terms even up until her last days. 

Lori is survived by her loving husband, Jeff; stepdaughters, Erin (Scott) Foust of Maquoketa, Kara (Doug Schnoor) Hoffmann of Maquoketa, Rileigh (Josh Willms) Hoffmann of Scotch Grove, Iowa; grandchildren, Jackson and Kade Foust and another grandchild on the way; parents, Ardo and Jan Schmidt of Preston; brothers, Rick (Kathy) Schmidt of Maquoketa, Kurt (Ann) Schmidt of Kansas City, Missouri, and Bryce (Jill) Schmidt of Eldridge, Iowa; grandmother, Vera Medinger of Maquoketa; mother-in-law, Marilyn Hoffmann of Charlotte, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brian (Lori Rolling Farrell) Hoffmann of Preston, Lori (Terry) Messerich of Charlotte, David (Michelle) Hoffmann of Clinton and Kevin Hoffmann of Charlotte; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. 

Lori was preceded in death by her grandparents, Art and Loretta Schmidt and Clarence Medinger and her father-in-law, Gerald Hoffmann.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church Preston from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 23rd with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 2:30 p.m. and vigil service at 8:00 p.m.  A concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24th in the Church with the Rev. Fr. Donald Hertges and the Rev. Fr. Paul Lippstock officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Rick Schmidt, Kurt Schmidt, Bryce Schmidt, Dennis Schmidt, Brian Hoffmann, David Hoffmann, Kevin Hoffmann and Terry Messerich.

Memorials may be made to the family.
