Winston Rock Obituary

Winston John Rock, 73, of Low Moor, Iowa, died suddenly Sunday morning, September 5, 2021, near Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born August 17,1948 in Clinton, Iowa to Eldon and Signe (Fagerland) Rock. Winston was a 1966 graduate of Calamus High School and worked as Lithographer at International Paper Company in Clinton for 32 years.  He married Donna Joyce Ewoldt on April 26, 1970, at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus.  The couple resided in rural Grand Mound and later Low Moor.  The couple owned and operated Rock Plumbing and Heating.  They also sold corn stoves and Fort Knox gun vaults.

Winston was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, Low Moor Lions Club and Low Moor Fire Department.  He was also a longtime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and flying in spare time.  Winston soared like an eagle in the Challenger he built.  He reveled in taking people up and sharing his love of flying.  It was important to him to offer his time and resources so others can enjoy the same.  He wanted to set everyone up for success.  He loved spending his summers in Shell Lake, WI and spending time with his Shell Lake family.  He traveled across the US at any opportunity to see friends and family.  Relationships were very important to him.  He was close to his children and adored his grandchildren. He looked forward to watching them grow.  Winston was full of love and life, and he enjoyed every minute of it.  His passion for life was felt by all those who knew him.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Donna; his children, Harvey (Leslie) Rock of Grovetown, Georgia, Tina Rock of Greenfield, Wisconsin and Mindy (Mike) Gadke of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Peter Rock, Matea McKesson, Adley Kling, Matthew Gadke, Ryan Gadke and Eleanor Gadke and his brother, Roger (Thea) Rock  of Rio Vista, California.

Preceding Winston in death were his parents, his brother, Charles Rock and his sister, Sonja Mess.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church from 12 noon until 2:45 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the church.  The Rev. Richard Knowles officiating.
