Wilma Jean Witt

Wilma (Mrs. Alfred) Witt, 83, of Delmar, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a brief battle with cancer.

Wilma was born January 3, 1938, to Elmer and Hilda (Henning) Windman in Muscatine, Iowa. After graduating from Muscatine High School in 1956, she worked for Stanley Engineering. Wilma married Alfred Witt on February 12, 1961, at Spangler Chapel in rural Muscatine. The couple resided in rural Delmar, where she worked with her husband on the farm while raising their five children. She later worked at the DeWitt Hospital, and then Central Community Schools in Welton for nearly 30 years until retiring.

She was a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., and Farm Bureau. Wilma enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye basketball games, and attending all her grandchildren’s school activities.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alfred; children, Diane (Phil) Burke, Charlotte, Doug (Angie) Witt, Delmar, Duane (Nancy) Witt, DeWitt, Dean (Stephanie) Witt, Bettendorf, and Dave (Teri) Witt, Dubuque; grandchildren, Amber (Kerry) Burzlaff, Adam (Dolly) Burke, Anthony (Stephanie) Burke, Chris Witt, Bethany and Alicia Witt, Rachel, Hannah, and Lucas Witt; great-grandchildren, Kade, Kallie, and Keaton Burzlaff, and Graham and Calvin Burke; a god-daughter, Denise Cooney; in-laws, Edward (Shirley) Witt, and June Nordan; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2021, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church. Burial following at Elmwood Cemetery.
