William “Bill” Hesse, 66, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in the comfort of his home, following a hard-fought courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Bill tried everything offered to beat this terrible disease. He never gave up, fighting to the end.
Bill was born September 28, 1957, the youngest of six children born to Marion and Natalie (McDonnell) Hesse, Noreen, Ron, Larry, Bob, Dick, and Bill.
After Bill’s father passed away from brain Cancer, his mother married John Regan, bringing with him six kids of his own, Jody, Molly, Pat, Mark, Tom and Kevin. Bill referred to them as the Brady Bunch X2. They were taught the value of hard work, earning an honest dollar and the importance of the love of family. After graduating from Calamus High School in 1975, he went on to receive several degrees and worked in many different places and in many different fields. Bill was previously married to Jill Steines with whom he had a son, Austin. Bill married Shelley (Vens) Long on September 26, 2013, and they had 10 wonderful years together.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, his son, Austin, his son’s mother, Jill Sell, and his brother Bob.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley and her children, Jessica Long and Brady (Leann) Long; two grandchildren, Parker and Camden Long; siblings Noreen (George) Hartney, Dick (Bobbie) Hesse, Jody Regan, Molly Regan, Pat (Sue) Regan, Mark (Deb) Regan, Ron (Jeanine) Hesse, Larry (Desiree) Hesse, Tom Regan, and Kevin (Paula) Regan; numerous nieces at nephews.
Friends and family are invited to gather at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, for a Celebration of Life at CALCO in Calamus.
A Private Family Service will be held at Schultz Funeral Home in Grand Mound, with Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Lymphoma Leukemia Society.
