William Goddard, Jr. Obituary

William H. Goddard, Jr., 83, of DeWitt, formerly of Welton, passed away suddenly Monday, October 3, 2022, at his home in DeWitt.

Bill was born July 30, 1939, to William Sr. and Helen (Rowson) Goddard, in Clinton, Iowa. He graduated from Welton High School in 1957. Bill was united in marriage to Kathryn Ann Hughes on September 26, 1959, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound. The couple resided near Welton where Bill farmed on the Goddard family farm and they raised 6 children. They moved to DeWitt in 2022.

Bill had been a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Welton, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. He served with the Welton Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Bill was an avid supporter of Clinton County 4-H. He enjoyed auctions and repurposing items into unique creations, many of which he entered into the county fair.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy; children, Lori (Tom) Strausse, DeWitt, Lisa (Bob) Coates, Maquoketa, Dean Goddard, Welton, Donn (Tammy) Goddard, Loveland, Colorado, Lynn (Rick Denman) Goddard, Delmar, and Dennis (Joanie) Goddard, Clermont; grandchildren, Kendall, Crystal, Callie, Quinn, Amber, Alicia, Alex, Trevor, Dylan, Wyatt, Jim, Eric, Shane, Skylar, Maria, Anna, Kaitlynn, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Mattison; 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Jean Passig, Kenny (Marjorie) Goddard, Randy (Cheri) Goddard, and a sister-in-law, Kay Goddard; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lula Belle (Dale) Campbell, Etta Mae (Leonard) Bergl, Sylvia (Richard) Collins, Charles Goddard, sister-in-law, Mary Goddard, and brother-in-law, Rodney Passig, and a grandson, Nathan Raveling.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, in the church, the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
