William "Bill" McCune Obituary

Willam John "Bill" McCune, 71, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away August 24, 2020 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois, following a long illness.

Bill was born November 17, 1948, the oldest son of Donald and Gertrude (Eastvold) McCune.  He resided most of his life in DeWitt and was a graduate of Central Community High School.  Bill enjoyed playing the trombone in the band and participated in choir and musicals.  He performed the lead in Music Man his senior year.  Bill joined the Air Force in 1968 and served in Vietnam as an Operating Room Specialist.  He returned to DeWitt where he was an Emergency Medical Technician for a time.  Bill worked at ADM in Clinton for many years.  

He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.  Bill will be remembered by his family as a kind and helpful person.

Surviving are his children, Jacobe (Katie) McCune of Davenport, Carrie (Matt) Ahrens of DeWitt and Robert (Tracy) Wilhelm of Jerome, Idaho; grandchildren, Sophia, Dylan, Cody and Neilee; brother, Donald (Sally) McCune of Ennis, Montana, sister, Jane (Michael) Plahm of Downers Grove, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt with Pastor Christopher Marlin-Warfield officiating.  Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 and the United States Air Force will conduct military rites.  Memorial contributions in honor of Bill may be directed to DeWitt Veterans Memorial.
