Wayne Williams, age 102, of Charlotte, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025. He was a resident of Wheatland Manor.
Wayne Elmer Williams was born March 3, 1923, to G. Elmer and Mayme (Andresen) Williams in Charlotte, Iowa. Wayne was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, a faith that remained an important part of his life. He graduated from Charlotte High School on May 9, 1940. Following graduation, he attended business college in Clinton before beginning his career in banking, starting at City National Bank in Clinton, earning $310 a month. On July 16, 1959, Wayne began working at Goose Lake Savings Bank (later Gateway State Bank). What followed was a remarkable career marked by dedication, consistency, and genuine care for people. The people he worked with were never just coworkers to Wayne. They became lifelong friends, many of whom remained dear to him throughout his life. Wayne’s long life was a testament to steady work, meaningful relationships, and simple joy found in everyday interactions. He will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Wayne was an avid sports fan, particularly for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago White Sox.
He survived by his friends in Charlotte and the surrounding area.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte, or the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, a Service of Christian Burial following at 2:00 p.m., The Rev. Lloyd Redhage officiating. Burial will be in Rossiter Cemetery, Charlotte.
