Todd “Toad” Claeys, 65, of Welton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center-East, following a brief illness.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024, in the funeral home, with Sister Janet Heiar, SSND officiating. Burial will follow at Oakview Cemetery in Welton.
Todd Alyn Claeys was born June 7, 1959, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Francis and Shirley (Cleveland) Claeys. He was raised in Welton, where he was involved in 4-H and ran with the Welton boys. Todd graduated from DeWitt Community High School in 1978. He worked as a mechanic for most of his life, retiring from P&K on March 8, 2024, after more than 30 years.
Todd served on the Welton Volunteer Fire Department, the Welton City Council, and was involved in CEW. He enjoyed attending all the local community breakfasts. Todd was a creature of habit. He also enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives, playing golf with friends and farming with his brothers. He was everyone’s “Mr. Fixit” He was affectionately referred to as “Toad”. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
With Todd’s passing, an era has ended. After 70 years, there will no longer be a Claeys living in Welton.
He is survived by his daughter, Cassandra (Cameron) Garven and their children, Carter, Caliana, and twins, Cade and Caia all of Jacksonville, North Carolina; siblings, Curtis (Diane) Claeys of Bliedorn, Denise (Pat) Feldpausch of DeWitt, Marlaina (Jim) Recknagel of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Colette (Chad) Christensen of Calamus, Corrin (Geoff) Blandin of DeWitt, Jay (Leora) Claeys of DeWitt, and sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Claeys of DeWitt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kevin.
