Terry Hofer, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis-East in Davenport.
Terry Otis Hofer was born on July 4, 1941, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Otis Hofer and Alice Mae Hofer (Nielsen). Terry worked in concrete and maintenance for many years, retiring from Chemplex, Lyondell.
Terry enjoyed smoking meat and making jerky, woodworking, and volunteering at the John Deere Classic where he was known for bringing a massive cooler for the volunteers. He also enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, and Minnesota Vikings. Terry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved caring for all animals, especially his hunting dogs, who were all named Rocky (except for the one female, named Heidi).
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Mark and Bernadette Hofer of Concord, California, and Wendy and Jeff Radcliff of DeWitt; a grandson, Mitch Hofer of Concord, California; and his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Alice Hofer of Camanche; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Hofer.
Cremation is being performed by the Schultz Funeral Home family at their crematory in DeWitt. In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to honor Terry’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to an animal shelter in his name.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to the staff members of Fieldstone of DeWitt for making his stay there so enjoyable. He was blessed by the relationships he made there.
