Steven Garlough

Steve Garlough, 63, of Walcott, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, following a stroke.

Steven Jay Garlough was born December 7, 1961, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Duwane and Dorothy (Miller) Garlough. He graduated from Central Community High School in 1980. Steve married JoAnn on March 30, 1985. The couple made their home in Aurora, Colorado; Council Bluffs, Iowa; and later Walcott, Iowa—forming many lifelong friendships along the way. Steve was currently employed by Seneca Companies, where he worked for over 20 years.

Steve was a dedicated and hard-working man, who took pride in everything he did. He was known for his ability to fix just about anything, was always ready to step in and help, and share his knowledge with others. Those who knew him knew he liked to talk. Steve loved camping, boating, and fishing. He especially enjoyed yearly fishing trips with the guys. Following in his brother’s footsteps, he was a proud member of the Deer Valley Collectors, taking the antique tractor to many parades and shows. Steve’s family was his greatest joy, and he deeply cherished his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, JoAnn; his son, Anthony (Allison); grandchildren, Ryder, Makenzie, and Hadlee; sisters, Barb (Tim) Joseph, Mary Garlough, and Cheryl (Steven) Ditty; a sister-in-law, Jill Garlough; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Jim (Jessie) Garlough, Jo Garlough, Carolyn Delinger, and Jerry Garlough.

Following cremation, Steve will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, with a private family service. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at Grace Lutheran Camp, 2675 242nd Street, DeWitt on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
