Shirley Hanrahan, 93, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Shirley was born in Clinton, Iowa on January 29, 1932, to Lee and Loretta (Quade) Gilbert. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1949 and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in education from Marycrest College in Davenport. Shirley was united in marriage to Ralph Hanrahan in 1954 at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton. They enjoyed nearly 30 years of marriage, raising two children. He preceded her in death in 1983. Shirley taught for 35 years, beginning in Welton and retiring from Ekstrand in DeWitt in 1994.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. She enjoyed golf, bowling, coffee with friends, and most recently, shenanigans with her new Fieldstone family.
Surviving are her children, Michele Bott (Mike Hull) of DeWitt, and Mike (Barb) Hanrahan of Fulton, Illinois; a grandson, Jake (Meghan) Hanrahan of Monument, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Ray (Charmaine) Gilbert, and son-in-law, Dan Bott.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Shirley will be laid to rest alongside her husband at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
