Shirley Gleason, 80, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a brief illness.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Shirley Ann Yoder was born February 1, 1943, in Monmouth, Illinois, to Irey and Dora (Morrow) Yoder. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1961, and received her associate degree from A.I.C. Business School in Davenport, Iowa. She married Robert Gleason on June 20, 1964, in Monmouth. The couple resided in Davenport for over 50 years. Shirley worked at J.I. Case, Bettendorf before becoming a homemaker, raising their two children. She later worked in office administration in the Davenport school system for many years. After retirement, they moved to DeWitt in 2016.
Shirley was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams. She enjoyed following her granddaughter’s athletic career in high school and college. Shirley loved flowers, gardening, and birdwatching. She and Bob always enjoyed their classic cars, especially Sunday afternoon rides.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob; children, Dan (Stacey) Gleason of Blue Grass, and Debbie (Monte) Moorehead of Davenport; grandchildren Chelsey, Allie, Ethan, Trent, Richie, and Annie; great-grandchildren, Kolton, Kane, Hazel, Holland, and Henry; a brother, Larry (Barb) Yoder; a brother-in-law, Gary (LaVonne) Gleason.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and in-laws, Robert and Edith Gleason.
