Sherwood Lahann Obituary

Sherwood Lahann, 88, of Wheatland, Iowa, passed away quietly Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Wheatland Manor, following a brief illness.

Sherwood Otto Lahann was born March 11, 1934, to Otto and Marion (Vetter) Lahann in rural Calamus, the youngest of four children. He attended the Buena Vista country school until he finished his education at Calamus Community School. In high school, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He met the love of his life, Delores Duke, while in high school and they were married on February 17, 1953. They farmed and milked cows for over 60 years.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and served on the council. He was also a 4-H leader in Clinton County and served on the fair board. He and Delores were part of a card club for many years and a supper club. Sherwood loved watching the Chicago Cubs, especially when they won the World’s Series. He also loved watching his kids and grandchildren participate in high school and college sports. He was an easy to please man, family and a good meal made him happy.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; children, James (Jeanne) Lahann, David (Deb) Lahann, and Lori (William) Dittmer; grandchildren, Sheri (Doug) Siemen, Susie (Tom) Marcum, Michelle (Adam) Densmore, Nicole (Allen) Phillips, Kelli (David) Hugo, Megan (Chris Nicholson) Lahann, Marx Dittmer and Alex (Krystal) Dittmer and 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his siblings, Margaret (Pete) Wuestenberg, Cliff (Arlene) Lahann, and Kenny (Margaret) Lahann.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time of 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Calamus. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland.
