Sharon Lee (Briese) Wagenknecht, 73, of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Newton, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, Sunday January 31, 2021. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Sharon was born July 28, 1947, to Robert D. and Beverly (Roberts) Briese, in Creston, Iowa. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1965. She married Joe Wagenknecht on January 30, 1971, at Rock Island, Illinois. She worked for the Newton Daily News, and later Iowa E.N.T. as a Medical Transcriptionist. She retired in 1995. She and Joe moved to DeWitt in 2017, to be closer to family.
Sharon was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Newton. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed doing cross-stitch, and was known for her pies.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Joe; children and their spouses, Kenneth John Surber and Denise Marx of Wales, Wisconsin, Jeff and Candy Wagenknecht of Davenport, Julie Wagenknecht-Burken and Wade Burken of DeWitt, Scott and Tammi Wagenknecht of Grinnell, Iowa, Michael and Arleen Wagenknecht of Colo, Iowa; grandchildren, Jordan (Mac Kenzee) Surber, Noah (Allison Babberl) Surber, Xavier (Rachel) Wagenknecht, Alyssa (Dan) Andersen, Javier Burken, Joseph Burken, Molly Burken, and Jack Burken, Alex Wagenknecht, TJ (Almyra) Wagenknecht, Kristen Wagenknecht, Mike (Andrea Henchal) Wagenknecht; great-grandchildren, William Wagenknecht, Sven Andersen, Teddy Andersen, and Leo Wagenknecht; a sister, Lisa Briese, and a sister-in-law, Merrianne Briese; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert L. Briese.
