Russell Walker, 75, of Welton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday January 10, 2024, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa following a sudden illness.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 18, in the funeral home, burial following at Oakview Cemetery in Welton.
Russell Leon Walker was born February 22, 1948, in Clinton, Iowa, to William and Marjorie (Claeys) Walker. Russ graduated from Central Community Schools, DeWitt in 1966. Russell married Rose Anna Burkey on August 24, 1967, and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving his country, Russ returned to the Welton area, working as a safety coordinator at Caterpillar and later as a machinist in various industries in the area. He retired from Egging Co. in Clinton in 2013. Rose preceded him in death on October 9, 2012.
Russell enjoyed watching Westerns, bowling on leagues with Rose, doing puzzles, reading books, collecting stamps, fishing and camping.
Those left to honor his memory include children, Ryan “Roscoe” (Cheri Gruhn) Walker of Maquoketa, Rodney “Chops” (Sandy) Walker of Welton, Reid Walker of DeWitt, and Renee Walker of Maquoketa; grandchildren, Rory (Ashley), Bailey, Lexi, and Lane; great-grandchildren, Braylan, Addi, and Hayden; brothers, Terry (Merilee), Denny, and Jeff; a sister, Diane Mohr; a brother-in-law, Randy Burkey; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
