Ruby Jeuell Tabler

Ruby Jeuell Tabler, 95, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday, December 14, 2023, in her home at the Quartet in Bettendorf.

A Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Ruby will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Rock Island National Cemetery.

Ruby Jeuell Shooke was born April 10, 1928, in Watson, Arkansas, to Houston Lee and Ruby Jewel (Walker) Shooke. She grew up in Arkansas, where she graduated from high school and attended Henderson State Teacher’s College. She married Grover Polk Tabler on April 7, 1947, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The couple resided in Hooks, Texas until moving to DeWitt in 1964. Ruby was a homemaker, rearing four children. Grover preceded her in death in 1997.

Ruby was a devoted daughter, a dedicated wife, a mother who always wanted the best for her children, a loving grandmother to the next generations, and loyal friend. She always remembered those who had helped her, and she cared about and defended the less fortunate.

She is survived by her children, Grover Michael (Jan) Tabler of Bettendorf; Cynthia (Ron) Anderson of Davenport; Becca (Dave) Schroeder of DeWitt; and Priscilla “Lee” (Keith) Kernek of Texarkana, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Shooke; a half-sister, Mary Beard; a half-brother, James Orville Beard; and a grandson, Jason Knutsen.
