Roland Harry Niemann

Roland H. Niemann, 89, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.

Roland was born January 4, 1932, to Harry Paul and Malinda (Gremmels) Niemann in Rural Scott County, Iowa. He was a 1950 graduate of DeWitt High School. Roland was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schnack on November 16, 1952, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, by the Rev. Theodore Hinck. The couple resided on the family farm in rural DeWitt until moving to DeWitt in 1978. He farmed in the DeWitt area all his life.

He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where he served as an Usher and Elder, and sang in the choir. Roland enjoyed golfing, and bowling. He was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan, and held season tickets for the Hawkeye football and basketball teams for many years.

Roland and Elizabeth were blessed with 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; son Steven Douglas and Ann Niemann (both deceased), their children, Luke and Lanna Niemann and their children, Cole, Alyssa, Callie and Levi, Matthew and Erin Niemann and their children, Mae, William and Jacob, Beth and Jared Scheckel and their children June, Josie and Brigham; son Wade Roland and Patricia Niemann, and their children, Christina and Michael Walter, Ali (fiancé Dustin BeGuhn) Niemann, Michael Niemann, Lena (fiancé Christian Karg) Niemann, and Benjamin (Emily Hawkins) Niemann; daughter Debra Sue Dahl (deceased) and her children Joshua and Kassi Dahl and their children, Patrick, Piper, and Priya, Lance Dahl, and Alisha and Aaron Krogman and their children, Marcus, Maverick, and Maddox. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Daniel B. Kaufman, brother-in-law, John H. Schnack, sister-in-law, Dorothy Bean, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his children, Debra Sue Dahl in 2005, and Steven Douglas Niemann and his wife Ann both in 2019, step-father, Albert Kruse, as well as sisters, Evelyn (Wilmer) Marxen, Hazel (Donald) Bousselot, Arlene (Joe) Scorpil, Loretta (Arnold) Busch, Joan (Mrs. Daniel B.) Kaufman.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time of 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, The Rev. Eric Obermann officiating. At the family’s request, all guests are asked to wear facial coverings. A luncheon will be served in the church basement after the service. Private burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Luke Niemann, Matthew Niemann, Joshua Dahl, Lance Dahl, Benjamin Niemann, Michael Niemann, Jared Scheckel, Aaron Krogman, and Michael Walter. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, as well as, Jim Bean, Jeff Schuetzle, Doug Todd, Steve & Melissa Schepers, John Santillan, Ryan Schroeder, and Ryan Waltz.
