Roland Gasper

Roland Gasper, 87, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Wheatland Manor.

Visitation will be Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Leah Holloway-Nilsen officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.

Roland Arthur Gasper was born on June 5, 1938, in Lindsay, Nebraska, to Raymond and Francis (Schumacher) Gasper. He graduated from Calamus High School in 1957 and spent a few years renting and working a farm before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1960. He later served in the Army Reserves and the Iowa National Guard. On April 20, 1963, Roland married Donna Lingle at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Sabula, Iowa. Together, they made their home on a farm west of Calamus, where they spent their entire married life and raised two sons. Donna preceded him in death on November 18, 2015.

Roland loved his farm, took pride in caring for his cattle, and enjoyed tinkering in the shop. He could fix anything, even if it wasn’t broken.

Surviving are his sons and their wives, Lee and Debbie of Calamus, Iowa and Ponchatoula, Louisiana, and Keith and Tracy of Calamus; grandchildren, Tyler Gasper (Sarah Noack) and Connor (Brooklyn) Gasper; step-grandchildren, Owen Engstrom, Taylor (Kellen) Nielson; a great-grandson, Luke; step-great-grandchildren, Whitley, Luca, and Amelia; a brother, Leon (Linda) Gasper; brother-in-law, Alan Lingle; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jeannette (James) Morby, brother, Melvin Gasper, and brothers-in-law, Larry (Joan) Lingle, and Clint Lingle.
