Robert “Bob” Mundt, 79, of DeWitt, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of his home Thursday, Mar 23, 2023.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Mar 29, 2023, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, the Rev. Eric Obermann officiating. Bob was born on Christmas Eve in 1943 to Herman and Lola (Glesmann) Mundt, in Omaha, Nebraska. Growing up, he survived Polio that he contracted when he was in the second grade. After graduating from Gladbrook High School, he continued at Wartburg College, where he played football, and then the University of Iowa. Bob was a teacher, a coach, and a guidance counselor. He married Marilyn Kruse Peters on March 25, 1995. The couple resided in rural DeWitt.
Bob had a great love for teaching and enriching the lives of the students in his life. He loved his grandkids, and great-nieces and nephews. Every year, Bob planted and cared for a huge garden. While he may have seemed rough and tough, Bob had a heart of gold. He was a fan of the Packers, the Hawkeyes, and was the commissioner of his fantasy football league for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Scott (Lonnie) Mundt of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Chad Mundt of Greenville, South Carolina, Michelle (Corey) Nuehring of Marion, Mike (Jenny) Peters of Grand Mound, and Mark Peters of DeWitt; grandchildren, Daniel, Connor (Georgia), Zachary, and Aliya Mundt, Mathew and Kathryn Mundt, Caitlyn, Cole, and Claire Nuehring, Gemma and Viola Peters; siblings, Dave (Pat) Mundt, and Kathy (Mike) Henningsen; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Nancy Spain, and a brother in-law, Alan Kruse.
