Raymond Flammang Obituary

Raymond J. Flammang, 86, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Ray was born July 23, 1936, to Peter and Margaret (Dierickx) Flammang in Clinton County, Iowa. He started farming at a very early age, helping on his grandparent’s farm as well as many farmers in the DeWitt area. Ray served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, being stationed in Germany for 18 months. Upon his return home, he married Eileen Block on December 11, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The couple resided in rural Grand Mound, where they raised 3 children and farmed together as a family. Ray also worked for J.I. Case, read meters for REC for over 25 years, and delivered for Danbred Company for over 10 years.

Ray was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. He loved farming. Ray faithfully attended the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to country and bluegrass music, working in the shop, and fixing things. He adored his family, and his family adored him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eileen; children, Mike (Julie) Flammang of Grand Mound, Tami (David) Delaney of DeWitt, and Tracy (Tom) Hughes of Delmar; grandchildren, Leann (Brady) Long and Chris Flammang, Garrett Delaney and Lexi (Devin) Ammann, and Zach and Hailey Hughes; great-grandchildren, Camden and Parker Long; a brother, Marvin (Essie) Flammang; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brothers, and a niece, Correen Tobey.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. A Service of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church, the Rev. Steven Anderson officiating. Burial and Military Rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
