Patty Jean Stephenson, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 23, 1940, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Patty was the beloved daughter of Herman and Dorothy (Shrout) Bennett. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1956, she married the love of her life, Gilbert “Steve” Stephenson, in Lexington, Kentucky. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion until Steve’s passing on April 14, 2014. Patty was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in caring for her family. She created a warm and welcoming home, always filled with laughter, love, and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. She loved quilting, crocheting, sewing, and spending time in her garden. Her greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her daughter, Nylia DeLange of DeWitt; her son-in-law, Tony Kopf of DeWitt; her grandchildren, Amanda Secia, Elijah Mohr, Meghann (Tim) Welch, Shayla Lippens, Mark (Denise) Secia, and Rachel Kopf; and her adored great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Mallory, Morgan, Maddox, Camryn, Aryanna, Gavin, Sophie, Bentley, Marshall, and Asher; siblings, Donnie (Peggy) Bennett, Jeff (Jamie) Bennett, Sheila (David) Fleischer, and Debbie Carpenter; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Patty was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Carolyn (Yaundell) Oaks, Jerry Bennett; her beloved daughter, Becki; her grandson, Eric; and a son-in-law, Robert DeLange.
Patty will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
