Obituary

Norm Bousselot, 87, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Maggie’s House in DeWitt.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church in the town of Calamus. Burial will follow at Kvindherred Cemetery in rural Calamus. Casual attire is welcome.  

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to Our Savior’s and Faith Lutheran Churches, Camp Courageous, CALCO, or other charity of choice.

Norman Howard Bousselot was born April 10, 1936, to Howard and Rachel (Olson) Bousselot in rural Calamus, Iowa. He graduated from Calamus High School in 1954. On September 14, 1958, Norm married Jeannene Kuehl at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. Norm farmed his entire life, and auctioneered for over 50 years with GMB Auction.

Norm was a baptized member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Calamus, where he served on many committees and boards. He was a member of the DeWitt American Legion. He was proud to have participated in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in 2018. Norm was a 4-H member and leader of the Win or Bust Club, and was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2009. He served on the boards of the Clinton County Fair, F&B Telephone, Calamus School, and CALCO, where he prepared many omelets for their breakfasts. He was a charter member of the Calamus Lions, and served as president of the Iowa Auctioneers Association, where he was a Hall of Fame member.

Norm enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce. He provided pick-up loads of sweet corn for Camp Courageous. He also enjoyed woodworking, daily coffee with the crew at Steffen’s, and attending all his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeannene; children, Donnie (Janelle) Bousselot of Calamus, Dave Bousselot of Grand Mound, Doug Bousselot of Calamus, and Sharyl (Larry) Banowetz of Grand Mound; grandchildren, Mallory Bousselot, Brodi Bousselot, Katie Banowetz, and Caleb Banowetz; siblings, Art (Sharon) Bousselot, Nora (Steve) Howard, Ardelle (Dennis) Hugdahl, and Beverly (Marv) Robeck; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staffs of Maggie’s House and Promedica Hospice for the care they provided to Norm.
