Mr. Morris G. Hayes, 87, Calamus, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2003 at Wheatland Manor.

Morris George Hayes was born May 14, 1915 in Calamus, Iowa, the only child of Roy Jonathan Hayes and Eva (Huebbe) Hayes. He married Grace Adams on November 17, 1939 and she preceded him in death on May 8, 1965.

He was a lifetime resident of Calamus except for the time that he spent serving his country in the Navy during World War II. Morris was a self-employed farmer and truck driver. He enjoyed eating at different Eastern Iowa restaurants, traveling, and reading. Morris was a member of the Calamus American Legion Post.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Hermeier and her husband, Wayne, Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Dr. William Hayes, Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Hayes, Calamus; a cousin, Meryl Minor, Wheatland Manor.

Along with his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roy "Cookie" Hayes.

In accordance with Morris'' request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family service and scattering of his cremated remains will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society for research on breast cancer in the name of his beloved wife, Grace.
