Milton Ahlers

Milton Ahlers, 86, of DeWitt, formerly of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Clarissa C. Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024, at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Mound.

Milton Eugene Ahlers was born March 15, 1938, in Grand Mound, the son of Harry and Velma (Saddoris) Ahlers. He graduated from Grand Mound High School in 1956. Milton married Rita Petersen on September 22, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound. He was self-employed as a carpenter and owned and operated Milt’s Lumber Shed in Ground Mound. Milt built new homes and repaired and remodeled many homes and buildings in and around the Grand Mound area.

Milt was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. He served on the Grand Mound Volunteer Fire department and as a City Councilman. Milt was involved in the restoration of the original fire station, which now serves as the Grand Mound Community Historical Museum and Depot. Milt enjoyed antiques and collecting, camping, spending time with his grandchildren, attending all his kids’ sporting events, tinkering in his shed, and a cold beer on occasion.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rita; children, Bryan (Colleen) Ahlers of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mark (Wendy) Ahlers of Papillion, Nebraska, and son-in-law, Craig Kohl of Grand Mound; grandchildren, Jamie (Jason) Jacobs, Megan Ahlers, Paige (Travis) Callan, Alexi (fiancé Stevin), Carson and Karli Ahlers, and Eric and Anna Kohl; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Vann of Florida; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Kohl, and sister, Roberta.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or the Grand Mound Fire Department Building Fund.
