Milo Soenksen

Milo Soenksen 93, of rural DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. in the church, the Rev. Eric Obermann officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Milo Glenn Soenksen was born November 17, 1931, to Carl and Elsie (Kuehl) Soenksen. He was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, having been baptized there as an infant and confirmed in his youth. Milo was a graduate of DeWitt High School, class of 1950. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served abroad in the Korean War. In 1958, he began his career as a heavy equipment operator, working for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 until his retirement in 1995. He maintained his union membership until his passing. Milo also operated the family farm Northeast of DeWitt from 1979 until 2017.

He was an avid motorcyclist, going on many trips with relatives across the country. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoor activities, maintaining his lawn, and mechanical work. Milo was immensely proud to have taken part in the Honor Flight in 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Eldridge; three children, Allan (Joy) Soenksen of Goose

Lake, Tracy (Steve) Dickey of Charlotte, and Carla Brockshus of Ames; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; sister, JoAnn (Dale) Greve of DeWitt; and sisters-in-law, Ann Soenksen, and Judy Soenksen. He is also survived by 8 stepchildren and numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Richard “Dick”, Floyd, and Lynn Soenksen, and sisters, Ruth Soenksen and Jeanette Eastman, a brother-in-law John Eastman, a nephew, Rick Soenksen, and a niece, Tanya Soenksen, along with his wives, Carol (mother of his children) and Lynda, and two step-children.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, or charity of choice.
