Mike Aguirre, 91, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.
Mike was born September 29, 1930, to Bartolo and Olimpia (Saenz) Aguirre in Eagle Lake, MN. He served in the Korean War as a U.S. Navy Gunner’s Mate on the USS Tolovana. Upon returning he married Consuelo Garcia. He cherished and cared for her until her death in 1996. He was fortunate enough to find a second love, and married Dixie Edwards in 2000. She preceded him in death in 2017. Mike worked for Oscar Mayer, retiring after 33 years.
Mike was a founding member the LULAC Club in Davenport. He enjoyed golfing, teaching his grandchildren to fish, cooking tamales with his family, and playing Euchre with his friends.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Selena) Aguirre of Davenport, Gloria (Mike) Cypret of Davenport, Michael (Vicki) Aguirre of Davenport, Cynthia Hughes of McKinney, Texas, and Jo Ellen (Jay) Zeimet of DeWitt; grandchildren, Bobby Aguirre, Angela Cypret, Steve Cypret, Gabriel Cypret, Andy (Zach) Eldredge-McMillan, Shanen Dean, Anthony Hughes, Samantha Hughes, Elizabeth (Andrew) Dingwald, Katelyn Hank, Kayla Zeimet, Kami Zeimet, and Keaton Zeimet; a great-granddaughter, Isla.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Aguirre, and siblings, Joseph, Richard, Steven, Mary Ellen, Mary, and Victoria.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the service time of 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Pastor Barb Hayden officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.
