Maurice Kleinsmith, 88, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Bickford Senior Living in Davenport.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page will officiate. Burial following in the church cemetery.
Maurice Kleinsmith, Jr. was born December 10, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Maurice Sr. and Rose (Witt) Kleinsmith. He attended a country school until moving to DeWitt, where he graduated from St. Joseph High School. He then received training as a television repair technician. Maury married Bernadette McGovern on December 28, 1959, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. The couple resided in DeWitt, where he owned and operated Kleinsmith TV and Radio Shack. He also worked at Supreme TV and Zeglin’s, retiring in 1997. In retirement he enjoyed driving for Thiel Motor Sales.
Maury was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Surviving are his wife, Bernie; children, Maura (Dan) Cerling of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Mike (Tammy) Kleinsmith of Bettendorf, and Kevin (Maria) Kleinsmith of Spanish Fork, Utah; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Headley; sisters-in-law, Patricia Kleinsmith and Linda Kleinsmith McAllister; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Robert Kleinsmith, John Kleinsmith, and Millie (Dave) Berhenke, brother-in-law, Charles Headley, and grandson, Justin.
