Mary Jane Slaymaker Obituary

Mary Jane Slaymaker, 75, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Monday, November 18, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service will follow in the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, at a later date.

Mary Jane Duke was born October 26, 1949, to James and Lois (Dosland) Duke of Grand Mound. She grew up on the farm in rural Grand Mound, graduating from Calamus High School. She worked at Iowa Mutual, where she was set up on a blind date with Harry Slaymaker. They were united in marriage on December 21, 1968, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Calamus. The couple resided in the Grand Mound area, where they raised their two children. Mary Jane was a dedicated homemaker, and later worked at North Scott Foods for several years.

Mary Jane enjoyed, gardening, music, dancing, and playing cards. Family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she never missed an opportunity to support them, faithfully attending every event and cheering them on with love and pride.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Harry; children, Sadie (Scott) Jacobsen of DeWitt, and Marcus (Richelle) Slaymaker of Welton; grandchildren, Nathan and Delaney Jacobsen, and Layton and Liza Slaymaker; a sister, Delores Lahann of Wheatland; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents a sister, Linda Glover, and a brother Bill Duke.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
