Mary Jane Sander

Mary Jane Sander, 74, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by family in her home.

Mary Jane Cleary was born February 21, 1951, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Edward and Gladys (O’Meara) Cleary. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1969. Mary Jane was united in marriage to Joey Sander on February 15, 1974, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. In the 1980s she returned to school, earning a degree in radiologic technology. Mary Jane worked at Moline X-Ray for several years and then Radiology Group in Davenport, retiring in 2013.

Mary Jane was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, photography, flower gardening, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; children, Eric (Allyson) Sander of West Des Moines, and Kim (Matt) Sidlinger of Clinton; grandchildren, Lauren and Max, and Meara; a brother-in-law, Jerry Swanson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dorothy, Patricia, Leona, Jean, Bette, Sally, and Terry.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Memorials may be directed to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
