Mary Noel, 86, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Trinity in Rock Island.
Following cremation, a gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Graveside Service will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.
In Mary’s own words, “I didn’t get to dance enough but life was full of many other joys. I ice-skated and roller-skated and played basketball and softball. School days were in the 50’s at Calamus, IA and I graduated with the class of ’57. I grew up on a farm. I was the middle child of seven, 5 boys and 2 girls born to Ralph and Elnora Byerly.
When I was married to Virgil Noel, we lived in Wheatland, and I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom for five children, three girls and two boys. I went on to become a hairdresser for a few years then 15 years as a massage therapist.
I liked outdoor flowers and yard work, making floral arrangements, baked good pies, was a Green Bay Packer fan. I wrote many letters to legislators and the newspaper opinion page,
and loved family gatherings.”
Surviving are her children, Coleen Rhoads, Kevin (Erin) Noel, Kelly (Sarah) Noel, Carolyn (Royce) Sims, and Sally (Eric) Ware; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Ray (Sonja) Byerly, Ruth McCoy, and Tom Byerly; in-laws and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and a granddaughter.
Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
