Marvin Flammang Obituary

Marvin Flammang, 86, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday, August 22, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in the church, the Rev. Fr. Michael Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.

Marvin Peter Flammang was born October 10, 1938, to Peter and Margaret (Dierckx) Flammang, in Rock Island, Illinois. He married Esther “Essie” Martin on January 28, 1961, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound.

Marv was hard-working all his life, beginning at the age of 3 with household chores, continuing into his childhood helping at the local grocery store, and laboring as a farm hand for many area farmers. He went on to own and operate Marv’s Conoco in Grand Mound for several years before building a long career with Iowa Electric, later Alliant Energy, where he dedicated 33 years of service. In addition to his full-time work, Marv also ran his own business, Marv’s Remodeling and Repair, where he put his skills and strong work ethic to use helping many in the community. In addition to the work that kept him busy, Marv enjoyed building and repairing things for his family and restoring antique tractors and wagons.

Surviving are his children, Kevin of Clinton, Lana (Steven) Smith of Farmington, New Mexico, Kathy (Jake) Worden of New Liberty, Annette (Jim) Clark of DeWitt, Marvin Jr. of Grand Mound, Todd (Jenn) of Blue Grass, Missy (Chris) Weber of DeWitt, Michelle of Anamosa; a son-in-law, Clyde Tobey; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ginny Martin of Davenport, and Eileen Flammang of Grand Mound; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Essie, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Correen Tobey, son-in-law, Jim Clark, a brother, Ray Flammang, in-laws, Collette (Dan) Conroy, Billy (Janice) Martin, Donny Martin, Dolores “Sissy” (Eddie) Carleton, and Bobby Martin.
