Mark Allyn Hughes

Mark Allyn Hughes, 59, of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022, in his home surrounded by family.

Mark was born November 22, 1962, in DeWitt to Hubert and Dorothy (Hoffmann) Hughes, the 5th of 10 children. He graduated from Central Community Schools in 1981. He married Nancy Carlin on February 24, 1996, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple resided in rural DeWitt, where he farmed.

Mark’s true passion in life was farming. He also enjoyed NASCAR, snowmobiling, many outdoor activities, crop-touring, golf, hunting, tractor pulling, Ranger rides, celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks, “safety meetings” with other local farmers, and attending his kids’ 4-H, school, and sporting events. He took many road trips, including annual “Hughes Vacations” with his siblings, and traveling recently to Tennessee with his immediate family.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy; children Ryan (Allison) Swanson, Brittney, Allison, and Lucas Hughes; grandchildren, Raylee and Calvin Swanson; his father, Hubert “Hub” Hughes; siblings Christy (Gary) Kunz, Cindy Hughes, Kathy (Kevin) Bierman, Mike (Beth) Hughes, Mary (Terry) Stevenson, Tom (Tracy) Hughes, Teresa (Craig) Cahill, Jean (Steve) Bowen, and Jim (Kelli) Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy and sister-in-law, Lori Hughes.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, Deacon Mike Sheil officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
