Marilyn Scheeper, 92, of rural Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Wheatland Manor.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound. Visitation will be one hour prior, with a Recitation of the Rosary at 12:45 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in DeWitt.
Marilyn was born August 3, 1930, on the family farm in rural DeWitt, the daughter of Linley and Alma (Geffers) Paarmann. After attending Burke #11 Country school, she graduated from Clinton County Rural Schools in 1944, and DeWitt High School in 1948. She worked at Iowa Mutual Insurance for several years. Marilyn was united in marriage to James Green on June 6, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1975. She was then married to Gerhardt Scheeper on July 16, 1977. He preceded her in death in 2010.
Marilyn was a longtime member of Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Central Community Historical Society in DeWitt, and belonged to the Grand Mound Friday Study Club for over 60 years. She loved to travel, having visited 49 states, Mexico, Canada, and several European countries. She enjoyed finding antiques, a good book, and the positive in everyone she met. Marilyn was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her daughters, Beth (Jeff) Lippens of Grand Mound, Sue (Charley) Hunter of DeWitt, and Sheila (Kevin) Stumpf of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Brad (Ranee) Lippens, and Brooke (Jayson) Cavey, Jacob Hunter, Will Hunter, and Alex (Mathias) Goodale, and Joshua (Kayli) Stumpf, Justin (Kara) Stumpf, and Cassie (Woody) Glasnapp; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Keaton, Landon, Cooper, Parker, Jackson, Brooks, Chase, Dawson, and three on the way; a sister, Eleanor Arey of DeWitt; a niece and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Willis, and a brother-in-law, Jack Arey.
The family extends their gratitude to the staffs of Lincolnway Villa and Wheatland Manor for their loving care during her stay with them.
Memorials are suggested to Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church, and the Central Community Historical Society in DeWitt.
