Marie “Lupe” Hilbert, 90, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2026, in her home, surrounded by family.
Funeral Services will be held at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial following at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
Marie “Lupe” was born in Davenport, Iowa, July 7, 1935, the daughter of Joseph and Maria Jesus Jennie (Hernandez) Vasquez, and was baptized Marie Guadalupe Vasquez as a child. She married Harold Hilbert on June 7, 1958, in Davenport. They spent their early years in Davenport, then DeWitt for several years, and settled in Grand Mound in 1969.
Marie was a dedicated wife, and mother of 7 children. She loved caring for her family and home. Marie was a proud grandmother, and was happy to have an active role in their lives. She enjoyed watching soap operas while doing housework, and listening to Spanish music on the radio.
Surviving are her children, Carol Siegwarth of Grand Mound, Brenda (Harlan Borcherding) Hilbert of DeWitt, Robert Hilbert of Davenport, Lisa (Michael) Lawson of Grand Mound, Janine Hilbert of Moline, Illinois, Christopher Hilbert of Grand Mound, and Chad Hilbert of Davenport; grandchildren, Tia (Tim Johnson) Siegwarth, Tucker (Jessica Paulman) Lawson, and Haley Lawson; sisters-in-law, Rose Vasquez, and Donna Rae (Hilbert) DeShaw; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, brothers, Ralph, Albert, and Diego Vasquez, and sisters, Mary (Augustine) Olvera, and Blanche (Gherwood) Mickelson, and a grandson, Nicholas Ryan Lawson.
