Margaret McDermott, 97, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home, on Easter morning, April 17, 2022.
Margaret was born November 7, 1924, to John and Mary (Manikowski) Wisor in Clinton, Iowa. She attended country grade school and graduated from DeWitt High School in 1942. After receiving her teaching certificate from Mount St. Clare College, she taught in country schools in Clinton County. On May 27, 1948, she married Bill McDermott. They resided in the Charlotte and Petersville areas, and later moved to DeWitt. Bill preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean (Jim) Rogers, Cedar Rapids, Mary Colette Scheirer, Peoria, Anita (Dan) Oshaben, Rancho Cucamonga, California; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Larry) Marreel, Omaha, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; a sister, Judy Dunn, Camanche; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by their son Tom, her parents, 3 sisters, a brother, sons-in-law, Dick Scheirer and Ray Hall, and in-laws too numerous to mention.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville.
