Margaret C. (Mrs. Donald) Dalton, 96, Grand Mound, Iowa, died Sunday evening, July 17, 2011 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Dalton was born Margaret Carmen Mooney, August 30, 1914 in Grand Mound, to William and Annie (Cooper) Mooney. She attended the Saints Philip and James Catholic School in Grand Mound. Margaret married Donald Dalton July 18, 1938 at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. The couple farmed for many years in the Delmar, Iowa, area. Donald preceded Margaret in death August 13, 2003.

She was a longtime member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Margaret was a wonderful homemaker. She loved to bake breads, buns and cinnamon rolls. Margaret appeared in Country Magazine twice for her wonderful baking. She baked right up until the time she became a resident at Westwing Place. Margaret enjoyed BINGO and playing euchre with her friends. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Donald W. (Barb) Dalton of The Villages, Florida, Thomas L. Dalton of Clinton, Iowa, Betty (Duane) Hite, Grand Mound, Debbie (Randy) Lewis of Dayton, Washington; grandchildren, Greg (Susan) Hite, Brad Dalton, Robby (Amber) McQuary and Shane (Beverly) Lewis; great-grandchildren, Corissa Hite, Dalton Hite, Kianna Hite, Brynne Hite, Reese McQuary, Ava McQuary and Jaymeson Lewis; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Margaret in death in addition to her husband, Donald were her parents, a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Robert McQuary and a sister, Evelyn Welsh Huffman.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Church. The Rev. Fr. David Brownfield will officiate with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. Memorials are suggested to Genesis Hospice of Clinton, Saints Philip and James Church or Westwing Place.

Pallbearers will be Roger Bousselot, Doug Dalton, Robert Dalton, Dale Dalton, Dick Campbell and Gary Welsh. Honorary pallbearers will be Robby McQuary, Shane Lewis, Greg Hite, Brad Dalton and Fritz Dalton.
