Lon Leroy Bennett, age 61, of Wheatland, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2026, as the result of a four-wheeler accident, alongside his beloved grandson, Harold LeRoy Bennett.
Born on April 9, 1965, to Donald and Beulah Bennett, Lon graduated from Lost Nation School in 1983. He was married to Bobbi Cavey for 25 years and built a life centered around family, hard work, and the outdoors.
Lon was a hardworking man, a loving father, and the very best Papa. He loved being outdoors, spending time with friends, and lending a helping hand whenever someone needed it. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandbabies. He loved his children dearly and was always there when needed.
Lon enjoyed mushroom hunting with his family and his best friend, Jay Ganzer; farming with his close friend Todd Rohling; and cutting wood with his buddy Jay Cavey. Whether working, helping, hunting mushrooms, or spending time with the people he cared about, Lon valued simple moments, hard work, friendship, and family.
Lon is survived by his children, Kailey Bennett, Chase (Brittany) Bennett, and Madison (Dylan) Rickels; his grandchildren, Easton Dalldorf, Lennox Carter, Grady Rickels, Lucille Bennett, and Sutton Rickels; and many extended family members, friends, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Beulah Bennett; his brother, Danny Bennett; his sister, Jody Feuss; and his beloved grandson, Harold Bennett.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wheatland. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, in the church, with Pastor Tessa Cavey officiating. Lunch will follow at Wheatland Community Hall.
