Lois O'Connor Obituary

Lois “Loie” O’Connor, 98, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday, July 22, 2024, at Wheatland Manor.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeWitt, with Visitation one hour prior. Burial following at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Born in DeWitt on April 1, 1926, Lois was the youngest of six children born to John and Hulda Yegge.

She graduated from DeWitt High School in the spring of 1943.  On May 12, 1946, she married Laurence (aka Lefty) O'Connor.  Their marriage resulted in four children, Michael, Kathleen, Dan, and Brian.

Loie was a devoted and loving wife and mother.  Along with her husband, she gave her children a stable and happy home life.  She was an accomplished cook.  While she was able, she regularly hosted holiday dinners for family and extended family.  And she was a caregiver for elderly extended family members.

Loie had wonderful friendships throughout her life that helped her to be the positive and joyful person that she was.  With Loie, the glass was always half full, not half empty, and it was never too late in life to make a friend.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband; by her son Michael O'Connor, and grandson Jeffrey O'Connor; by brothers Robert Yegge, Maurice Yegge, Francis Yegge, and Marcus Yegge; by her sister Lucile Otey; and by sisters-in-law Ruth Meyer, Lois Yegge, and Betty Yegge; and brothers-in-law Arch Meyer and George Otey.

She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Brockmeier (Richfield, MN), her sons Dan O'Connor and Brian O'Connor (both of DeWitt), grandson James O'Connor (Eden Prairie, MN) and by nephews Douglas Yegge (Bettendorf) and Mark Yegge (The Villages, Florida) and niece Laurel Kedley (Bettendorf).

Lois was an active member of First Congregational UCC, DeWitt and participated in various charity drives.

Memorials may be directed to her church or charity of choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
