Lila Stewart Obituary

Lila Stewart, 92, of Eldridge, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport.

A private family service will be held. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be made to Grand Haven Retirement or United Methodist Church of DeWitt.

Lila Jean (Hodson) Stewart was born April 28, 1930, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Andy C. and Vera (Galitz) Hodson. Lila lived for a number of years on a small acreage close to Artesian South Dakota.  She graduated from DeWitt High School in May of 1948 and married her high school sweetheart Donald R. Stewart on June 30, 1948. Lila served as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and Business Manager for Dewitt High School as well many businesses, lastly DeWitt Bank & Trust, retiring in 1988. She was mother to two children, Denise and Dary. Her hobbies included cross stitching, sewing and baking. Her family and home were very dear to her. She was member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

She is survived by her son Dary (DeeLaine) Stewart of San Diego, California; four grandsons, David (Stephanie) Cleveland of Cypress, Texas, Matthew (Jenna) Bray of Eldridge, Iowa, Ryan (Cherry) Bray of Houston, Texas and Jeremy Treadwell of Concho, Arizona; precious great-granddaughters Emma Cleveland, Ava Cleveland, and Lila-Denise Bray; a sister, Lola (Charles) Schneckloth; numerous nieces and nephew.

Preceding Lila in death were her parents and stepfather, her husband Donald, daughter Denise (Steven) Bray, and brother Clare (Ruth) Hodson.

Memorials may be made to Grand Haven Retirement or United Methodist Church of DeWitt.
