Lester C. Schau, 82, of De Witt, Iowa, passed away suddenly, Sunday, January 3, 2021, in his home.
Lester was born April 16, 1938, in De Witt, to Peter and Marjorie (Freeman) Schau. After graduating from De Witt High School, he married Helen Buckley. The couple had 3 sons. She preceded him in death in 1985. Les worked for Hardison Plumbing, which he later purchased, becoming Smith & Schau Plumbing. In the late 1980s, he and his son started Schau Plumbing, which he retired from in 2001. He married Phylis Schnoor in 1988, she had 3 daughters.
Les enjoyed collecting cars and tractors, wintering in Arizona with their 5th wheel, gambling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many will remember Les riding his bike around De Witt.
He is survived by his wife, Phylis; sons, Mike (Caren) Schau of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Mark (Ellen) Schau of De Witt, Martin Schau (Bill Swiderski) of Dunedin, Florida; step-daughters, Sheri (Mike) Wallace of Eldridge, Cindi Sampson of Dubuque, and Lisa (Tom) Christoffersen of Camanche; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Betty Schau, and Red O’Toole; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by brothers, Merlyn (Irene), Marvin, and Ronald (Ruth), and son-in-law, Mark Sampson.
No services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
